BASIC OPHTHALMOLOGICAL EXAMINATION

      Basic eye examination includes.

1. Detailed medical history, including ophthalmological and general diseases, as well as medications used so far.
2. Visual acuity test for distance and near using Snellen Charts.
3. Examination of the refraction of the optical system of the eye using an autokerator refractometer without and after paralysis of accommodation.
4. Examination of the protective apparatus of the eye, including the assessment of the mobility and setting of the upper and lower eyelids, the examination of the lacrimal points and the patency of the lacrimal ducts, the assessment of tear secretion using the Schirmer Test.
5. Examination of the anterior segment of the eye using a biomicroscope, i.e. a slit lamp. For the examination, we use a digital biomicroscope with the possibility of making photographic documentation. We assess the conjunctiva and cornea, the anterior chamber of the eye, the iris and lens, and the angle of filtration. We use a Zeiss gonioscope to measure the width of the filtration angle.
6. Examination of the posterior segment of the eye (assessment of the fundus) includes an assessment of the vitreous body, assessment of the optic disc, macula, and central and peripheral retina. The examination of the fundus of the eye is carried out in a biomicroscope with the use of Volk lenses of appropriate power.
7. We measure intraocular pressure using an applanation tonometer, a non-contact air puff tonometer and a tonopen.
